# ML307 / Quectel-E Series Cat.1 AT Modem (v3.7)

ESP-IDF component for ML307R / EC801E / NT26K LTE Cat.1 modules.
Originally created for https://github.com/78/xiaozhi-esp32.

If you see `UART_FIFO_OVF`, set `CONFIG_UART_ISR_IN_IRAM=y` and keep heavy I/O such as LVGL on CPU1.

Requires **C++23** (`std::expected`) and **ESP-IDF >= 5.5.2**.

## What's New in 3.7

- **Structured errors**: sync APIs return `NetworkResult<>` / `AtResult` (`std::expected`). `bool` + `GetLastError()` is gone.
- **Actionable failure reasons**: DNS, timeout, TLS, auth, CME, and similar failures map to `NetworkErrc`. `ToString()` is safe to show to users.
- **Async errors use callbacks**: WebSocket `OnError` receives `const NetworkError&`; MQTT `OnError` still receives a readable string.

## What's New in 3.5

- Low-power mode for the cellular module
- DTR pin wakes the 4G module from the MCU
- RI pin wakes the MCU from the 4G module
- EC801E idle current on-network is about 1–2 mA

`Read()` returns the number of bytes on success (`0` means EOF) and a `NetworkError` on failure:

## Error Handling

Synchronous results are in the return value. Do not call `GetLastError()`; that API was removed.

`NetworkError` keeps both a category and the native code:

Keep `native` for vendor manuals. Prefer `ToString()` or `Message()` in logs and UI.

Branch on the category when you need different retry behavior:

AT errors can be converted to network errors:

After a connection is established, later failures go through callbacks:

- WebSocket: `OnError(const NetworkError&)`
- MQTT: `OnError(const std::string&)`
- TCP: `OnDisconnected()`
- Modem: `OnNetworkStateChanged(bool)`

Network attach still uses `NetworkStatus` (SIM / registration / timeout). That is separate from transport-level `NetworkError`:

## Migration (v3.6 → v3.7)

3.7 is not compatible with `bool` / `GetLastError()`. Callers must switch to `std::expected`.

`std::expected` converts to `bool` only explicitly. If a wrapper still returns `bool`, use `.has_value()`:

## Design Notes

1. Module type is detected automatically
2. All modules share the same client API
3. Sync failures carry a reason, so OTA no longer reports only `code=-1`
4. `std::unique_ptr` owns protocol clients
5. New module backends can be added behind `NetworkInterface`

## Notes

1. Create the modem with `AtModem::Detect()` and check the `AtValue`
2. Create protocol clients with `CreateXxx()`; they return `std::unique_ptr`
3. Sync failures are in the return value; later disconnects and protocol errors use callbacks
4. `GetAtUart()` returns `shared_ptr<AtUart>` and can be shared safely
5. Call `.reset()` to release a client early
6. Network interface methods default to `connect_id = -1`
7. Translation units need C++23; the component exports `PUBLIC cxx_std_23`
